Why Did I Run for Office?

When I woke up on the morning of becoming Mayor of Indian Wells contemplating why I went into government. Then my alarm clock, powered by electricity provided by Southern California Edison, reminded me that I need to start my day. I took a shower in the clean water provided by the Coachella Valley Water District. While dressing, I turned on the tv to watch KESQ, a Federal Communications Commission regulated channel to see what the weather was like in Indian Wells using data supplied by the National Weather Service aggregated by satellites designed and launched by National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I grabbed a quick breakfast eating food inspected by the US Department of Agriculture and had my vitamins which are approved by the Food and Drug Administration. I got into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved car to drive here on roads built and maintained by a combination of the Riverside County Transportation Commission and the City of Indian Wells.

While sitting at a traffic signal controlled by the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, I realized my car needed some Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board approved gasoline. So, I pulled into an ARCO station built and owned by Nachhattar Chandi, a local immigrant turned billionaire, and used legal tender to pay for my filled tank which of course is issued by the Federal Reserve Bank. When I finally arrived at the office, I realized that I forgot to lock the door to my home but that's ok because the Riverside County Sheriffs who patrol Indian Wells make our city one of the safest communities in California. I can also rest assured that my home won't burn down because of the five- star service provided by CalFires who manage Fire Station 55 across the parking lot.

When I entered City Hall, a building and staff paid for by tax dollars which filters through the California State Franchise Tax Board, the county of Riverside, and our amazing City Treasurer, I turned on my computer to review any urgent emails on the internet which worldwide web was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration under the Office of the Secretary of Defense now War. I read an email from one of our residents that said, "Dr. Taylor I fear you don’t know what you’re in for being Mayor, government CANNOT do anything right."

The truth is I am here today for one reason: because I care.

VISION FOR INDIAN WELLS

Indian Wells is a special city that needs Toper Taylor, a doctor of public policy, successful businessperson, and longtime Indian Wells Golf Committee member. Over the next four years, the City Council of Indian Wells must address significant investments requiring tens of millions of dollars from both the public and private sectors. Investments include the redesign of the golf course, the launch of a new celebrity chef restaurant, the development of affordable housing to meet state requirements, the development of a luxury hotel complex, and the maintenance of our low-income retirement homes, growing energy needs, and more.

As one of the fastest growing regions in the state of California, we must anticipate and prepare for the increased use of our infrastructure including our roads, sidewalks, police, fire, energy, water, and parking. The city of Indian Wells needs leadership who is educated, experienced in complex negotiations, setting long-term strategy, reviewing complex budgets and forecasts, and holding our city accountable. As a long-time executive in family entertainment who built businesses with more than two thousand employees located over four continents, managed global brands, and worked with banks to provide lines of credit that are in the $100 million range, the city of Indian Wells can rest assured when Toper Taylor joins their city council.
